Kuala Lumpur’s rail network (LRT, MRT, Monorail and the new LRT3) is the fastest way around the city and avoids the traffic. Here is how to pay, which pass to buy, and how to get started from Cormar Suites.

How to pay and ride (official)

  • Buy a Touch ‘n Go card (KLIA, stations, NU Sentral, 7-Eleven) and reload it with cash or by app.
  • Tap in and tap out at the gates.
  • Without a card, buy a single-journey token or QR receipt at a station machine or counter. Bank cards are accepted there only, not at the gates (May 2026).
  • For unlimited rides, buy Rapid Kembara at a station customer service counter (loaded onto TnG).
  • Plan trips with the PULSE app (Google Play · App Store).
  • Open payment is not live yet. As of 22 May 2026, Prasarana’s open-payment project (credit/debit card, Apple/Google Pay and QR tap-in) was at final contract award. Buses get it within 15 months of award and rail within 30 months. Today riders use a Touch ‘n Go card or a cash token/QR; bank cards work only at counters and machines to buy tokens or reload.

Tickets and passes

  • Distance-based single fares (LRT3: 80 sen to RM4.30 cashless).
  • Rapid Kembara: RM25 for 1 day or RM55 for 3 days (tourists).
  • Rapid Bulanan: RM150 for 30 days (open to non-Malaysians).
  • My50 is for Malaysians only.
  • Tourist passes from 1 Jan 2026: Rapid Kembara costs RM25 for 1 day or RM55 for 3 days, unlimited on LRT, MRT, Monorail, BRT and Rapid buses including feeders. It replaces the RM10 MyCity pass. Rapid Bulanan is a 30-day pass at RM150, open to non-Malaysians. My50 is for Malaysians only.

Lines and hours

  • KL Monorail (Line 8) runs 8.6 km elevated between KL Sentral and Titiwangsa, 11 stations, through the Bukit Bintang ‘Golden Triangle’.
  • LRT3 Shah Alam Line (Bandar Utama-Johan Setia, 37.8 km) opened for full passenger service on 29 June 2026. Fares started after a free period and range from 80 sen to RM4.30 cashless (RM4.90 cash).
  • Typical hours are about 6am to midnight. Weekday peaks run 6:30-9:30am and 4:30-8pm at 4-6 minute intervals; off-peak and weekends at 7-10 minutes. This comes from a third-party guide; check line-specific last trains.
  • MRT3 Circle Line (51 km, 31 stations) is not built. Land acquisition is due to finish end-2026, tenders restart around mid-2026, and construction may run from 2027 to about 2033.
  • Women-only coaches exist: MRT Kajang Line (since Sept 2023), MRT Putrajaya Line (since Apr 2024) and LRT Ampang/Sri Petaling (since 31 Dec 2024). They are mid-train, with pink platform markings.
