Water Festivals KL 2026 — Songkran, Rain Rave & More

Mark your calendars: Malaysia’s biggest Songkran celebration returns to 1 Utama Shopping Centre, Damansara, from 9 – 19 April 2026. Organised by the Royal Thai Embassy and 100% free to enter, the 11-day Songkran Festival 2026 turns South-East Asia’s sixth-largest mall into a 12-hour playground of water, food and culture—midday to midnight, every single day.

What to expect

  • 80,000+ visitors over eleven days—come early for shorter queues.
  • Rod Nam Dam Hua water-blessing ceremony performed by Thai monks—pour scented water over Buddha images and elders’ hands for good fortune.
  • Non-stop water-splashing zones with refill barrels and low-pressure jets—safe for kids, fun for adults.
  • Live Thai classical & folk dance on the main stage every evening.
  • 50+ food booths run by Malaysian-Thai chefs: charcoal-fired Pad Thai, tom yum seafood pots, coconut ice-cream rolls, and the obligatory mango sticky rice.
  • Pop-up craft market—hand-woven bags, essential-oil balms, Songkran floral shirts.

Insider tips

Weekdays = shorter food lines; weekends = full dance shows and fireworks at 11:30 pm. If you’re travelling with elders, head to the indoor “soft splash” zone on Ground Floor (no buckets, only ladles). Parents can rent strollers at Concierge for RM 15/day. Rain or shine, the party continues—1 Utama’s roof is the size of 24 football fields.
